Dr. Jin Y. Kim, the director of West Coast Study Club, is a US-based periodontist, with dental training in Australia and the US. Born in Korea, he grew up in Sydney, Australia, where he completed dental school in 1986. He completed clinical residency at UCLA School of Dentistry, and obtained specialist status in 1998. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, and with the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry. Dr. Kim has extensive experience in clinical dentistry, and in particular, he prides his valuable experiences in general dentistry which he experienced from 1987-1994. In that period of time, he was able to practice in private practice settings, hospital settings, and in academic dentistry, in Australia, Korea, and in California. His exposure to many facets of restorative dentistry not only makes him better understand your case, he is able to communicate and treatment plan your specific cases with the corresponding referring general dentists with deeper appreciation. Apart from specialty private practices in Diamond Bar, and West Garden Grove, California, Dr. Kim is currently engaged in teaching of dental students, residents and fellow dental professionals, as a lecturer at UCLA School of Dentistry and as a sought-out international speaker. He has spoken at national and international academic and clinical podiums including the International Association of Dental Research (IADR), Academy of Osseointegration (AO), American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), European Federation of Periodontology (EuroPerio), International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI), National Institutes of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), American Association of Public Health Dentistry (AAPHD), California Society of Periodontists (CSP), Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), Korean Academy of Maxilofacial Implants, Columbia Society of Periodontology, and at a number of universities including New York University, USC, UCSF, Loma Linda University, University of Miami, Seoul National University, Wonkwang University, Chosun University, Chung San University, University of Sydney, University of Hong Kong, and of course, UCLA. Dr. Kim’s international lecture “appearances” span over USA, Australia, Canada, Spain, England, Jamaica, Korea, Taiwan, China, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Palestine, Israel, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Chile. Dr. Kim is currently a consultant to several major dental implant companies and to a number of surgical device manufacturers. His research has been published in respected scientific journals such as Journal of Periodontology, Annals of Periodontology, Dental Implantology Update, Journal of Dental Research, Practical Periodontics and Aesthetic Dentistry, International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry, and in several dental textbooks. He has translated Dr. Arun Garg’s popular implant textbook into Korean language, and has contributed to a book chapter of a implant dentistry case textbook in Korea. Dr. Kim is married to Dr. Connie Kyung Choi, a dentist trained at USC School of Dentistry, and practicing general dentistry. They are the proud parents of three boys, Justin, Stanley, and Cameron. He enthusiastically participates in boy scout activities at troop 93 in Fullerton, California, and is particularly proud of two Eagle scouts. One is a dental student, and another is a software programmer. The youngest son is working hard to achieve the Eagle status!
